Deepening Understanding

The blue belt represents the sky and sea—vast and deep. Your Judo knowledge is now substantial, and you're beginning to understand the subtle nuances that separate good technique from excellent technique. At this level, you're ready for advanced study.

Blue belt training focuses on refinement, competition preparation, and deeper technical understanding. You'll study kata, learn to teach others, and prepare for the transition to brown belt—the final step before Shodan.

  • Te-waza (Hand techniques) - 3 throws
  • Koshi-waza (Hip techniques) - 3 throws
  • Ashi-waza (Leg techniques) - 3 throws
  • Ma-sutemi-waza (Rear sacrifice) - 3 throws
  • Yoko-sutemi-waza (Side sacrifice) - 3 throws

Nage-no-kata contains 15 fundamental throws performed in precise form. It teaches the principles behind techniques, not just the mechanics.

Seiri

Refinement and organization. Your techniques should now be clean and efficient. Remove unnecessary movements and focus on the essential elements that make each technique work.
